forgotten

If I had a dollar for every time

I heard “I love you but I can’t, I hope that you understand.”

I could probably fly us Off to Japan

Just to hear you tell me,

It wasn’t part of your plan.

And if there was a mission,

Something bigger than us,

Something far past the stars,

Something more than the dust,

That our body’s returned to,

then I guess I could make do,

With the original series…

or At the least, the reboot.

You can touch me,

For as long as you want.

But I can see in your eyes,

This is not what you thought…

I’m not just somewarm body,

That someone forgot,

But it’s the best that you got…

I am an art piece, I just want you to paint me,

So that people can pay you,

so the people can hang me,

Somewhere up in their hallway,

So that they can forget me,

Give it all to their grandkids,

Just so they can all hate me.

Say It “wasn’t worth money,”

That their grand dad was paying,

Say “I’d rather inherit a summer home off in Haiti.”

Give it all to the curb now,

Like a forgotten lady,

That I once used to be,

Before you called me baby.

You can touch me,

For as long as you want.

But I can see in your eyes,

This is not what you thought…

I’m not just some warm body,

That someone forgot,

but It’s the least that you got…

You would put me together,

Like the puzzle you sent me,

But these 500 pieces, are 500 too many.

Save it all for the lovers that once knew but forget me.

I could write them a letter, I could write about twenty.

Laying out how I’m not just,

Somebody’s warm body,

I’m worth much more than somebody’s

Broken old hobby,

Finding jigsaw cut cardboard,

Laying beneath your headboard.

I remembered the shield,

But I forgot the damn sword…

You can touch me,

For as long as you want.

But I can see in your eyes,

This is not what you thought…

I’m not just a warm body,

That someone forgot,

I’m the best that you’ve got…

and the best that you’ll have!
